About the project
Midnight In The Mangroves Exhibition is a non-profit exhibition that combines the art of photography with knowledge of mangroves. It demonstrates the close relationship between arts and education in the community by focusing on the environment and climate. The exhibition presents Chiron Duong’s imagination of the unique spiritual world, based on indigenous stories.
Objectives of the exhibition:
To provide basic information about mangroves through the art of photography with a fresh approach.
To raise funds for protecting and regenerating mangrove forests activities and connect with organizations specializing in mangrove planting.
The visual system of the exhibition was developed based on the geography of the mangroves, including water and shallow areas interwoven with the roots of trees. With the theme, the mystery of the mangroves, we have associated the eyes of mysterious creatures behind the forest trees from the work of Chiron Duong. Combining the above ideas, a graphic system with mysterious colors of mangroves was formed. Based on mangrove studies & researches, we decided to design a typeface for this project. The main inspiration of the typeface is from the characteristic branches and roots of the mangrove forest and the close eyes of the specific creatures in the forest from underwater to terrestrial.
Space.
The space created is aimed at the interaction between people, works, buildings, and existing contexts. The exhibition space is placed in a closed curve to create a continuous tour process with no end. The construction curve is designed to follow the existing landscape at the venue.
Time.
The space itself changes its appearance from day to night. During the day, the building serves as the background for the landscape and the shadows of existing subjects. At night, a light curve is formed, creating a new look for the scene.
